4. Avengers Age of Ultron (2015)
Firstly I have to say that by no stretch of the imagination is this a bad film. It's just the worst of a great series. There were many great action sequences in the film, and the new characters are interesting and likeable. The big problem with the film was the villain. Ultron was very hyped up and from the trailers, he seemed like he would be compelling and different to any villain we had seen before. But he wasn't. Because his origin story was a part of the film, it took away some of the suspense that usually surrounds villains, and it gave him very little time to develop resulting in a disappointment of a villain.
3. Avengers (2012)
The film that really gave the MCU liftoff. Putting it at number 3 feels harsh but nevertheless 2012s The Avengers was incredible. Even though it starts off very slowly, and the first 20 minutes are actually quite boring, the film rapidly picks up after that. The characters were all developed in interesting ways and the villain Loki still remains one of the best Marvel villains to date. The final battle in new york was great and really set the high benchmark for future MCU battles that would follow this mega-hit in the future.
2. Avengers Endgame (2019)
Right. Ok. I know this is controversial. However, in my opinion, Avengers Endgame, which is the highest-grossing film of all time, is only the second-best avengers film. The 3 hour run time was, in my opinion, a perfect length of time for the directors to craft a film that would cap off the last 11 years of Marvel films. The time travel element was incorporated very well and the story was emotional and action-packed, which is exactly what audiences expected from a film with this much hype surrounding it. It was a finale that was so close to being perfect and left many people satisfied after they walked out of the cinema.
1. Avengers Infinity War (2018)
Now if I had written this list just after I saw Endgame then I would have put this film at number 2. However, it has been over 2 years and I've had a change of heart. Infinity War was simply incredible. Thanos quickly became one of cinema's most memorable villains, which is even more impressive considering that Marvel is known for having very underwhelming villains. It very quickly grossed $2 billion and deservingly so. One of the best Marvel films and in my opinion, the best Avengers film.
